All About Ashville: 1st Annual Bulldog Bash 5K Fun Run

On Saturday, April 13, Ashville High School will be hosting its first annual 5K fun run as a healthy, fun, community oriented way to raise money for the school’s track and field team.

The event begins at Ashville Baptist Church at 85 and 5th Ave. The post game ceremony will be held on the lawn of the courthouse after the race.

Runners ranging in ages from fifteen to over seventy are encouraged to enter.

The age groups will be divided into 15-20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 plus. The winner from each group will receive a medal. Prizes will also be given to the top three males and females chosen from all the runners.

The cost to register is fifteen dollars plus a $2.50 registration fee if applied by April 7. Those registering after the seventh will be charged an extra five dollars. All proceeds go to Ashville’s track and field team.

Donations including monetary, items from retail stores, and gift baskets for door prizes for the top female and male winners are also appreciated.

Local merchants have the opportunity to advertise their businesses through sponsorship. For more information, contact Michelle Rogers at michellerogers@sscboe or 931-692-2493.

This event was the brainchild of Michelle Rogers, the assistant track and field coach at Ashville Middle School and Barry Simmons, the head track and field coach at Ashville High School. Policy prohibits the schools to hold their own fundraising events, so they decided to open it up to the community.

“The great thing about running,” says Rogers, “is it’s a lifelong sport. Many people, young and old, enjoy it as a way to stay healthy and in shape. And it introduces you to many people who can become lifelong friends. We are hoping this will become and Ashvillian tradition.”

So, lace up your running shoes, get out your checkbook, sponsor your business, or gather whatever items you deem worthy of a gift basket. Come as a spectator to support anyone you know who is participating in the run. Or just come as a spectator to support your community and help this event become a healthy part of its heritage.
