Michelle Davis Dental: Dr. Davis offering free oral cancer screenings

Staff members at Michelle Davis Dental in Leeds will administer free screenings on Wednesday, April 27

Dr. Michelle Davis, whose practice is located in Leeds, will be providing free oral cancer screenings on Wed April 27, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Those who participate in the free screening will receive a comprehensive oral cancer examination administered by a dental professional.

Team members from Michelle Davis Dental will facilitate the screenings and provide educational materials to anyone who is interested. The screenings are painless and will only take a few minutes.

Dr. Davis is now using a revolutionary oral cancer screening device to detect any suspicious changes in the cells of the mouth, throat, tongue and tonsils that may potentially lead to oral cancer. The oral cancer screening device, named Identafi®, is manufactured and marked by DentalEZ® Group. The new medical device will help Dr. Davis and her staff reduce patient incidence of oral cancer through early detection.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation close to 37,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year. Oral cancer will cause over 8,000 deaths, killing approximately one person per hour. The main reason for these grim statistics is not because oral cancer is hard to diagnose, but because it is diagnosed too late – when it has already progressed to its advanced stages. Dr. Davis is offering free screenings in hopes of lessening those numbers.

“An oral cancer screening should be conducted every year, so take advantage of our free offer and get screened today,” Dr. Davis said. “We are pleased to be one of the first dental practices in the area to utilize this advanced oral cancer screening technology. Because the signs and symptoms of oral cancer often cannot be seen by the naked eye, Identafi® technology enables me to do just that – identify changes in the mouth that may be a sign of something more serious.”

Dr. Davis takes a unique approach to her practice. She uses a gentle approach, easing any concerns patients might have by providing valuable patient education. She listens so she can best understand a patient’s particular needs. She strives to provide the highest standard of personalized care using her skilled training in the latest advances in dental technology.

Dr. Davis graduated from Auburn University, with a degree in Biomedical Sciences, and went on to extend her education, receiving her doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham.
