Mardi Paws – Annual ASPCI Fur Ball returns this month

After vacating its longtime home in Pell City last year, the Animal Shelter of Pell City, Inc., continued to successfully operate its programs in the area. Last month alone, ASPCI, moved 11 dogs from its foster program to an Atlanta facility that will help them find forever homes.

Over its 15-year existence, ASPCI developed a deep network that has allowed the organization to thrive without a singular base of operations. ASPCI no longer operates the facility located on Airport Road and is not affiliated with the Pell City Animal Control Center, which is operated by the City of Pell City.

ASPCI’s members say they are focused on receiving animals through the managed admissions program and placing them in either their adoption program or finding homes through its rescue efforts. ASPCI continues to offer its low cost spay/neuter program (SNAP) to reduce unwanted litters.

The organization funds these programs through donations and special events, and the biggest fundraiser of the year for ASPCI is returning next week.

A “Party for the Paws,” ASPCI’s annual Mardi Paws Fur Ball, will take place Feb. 19 at Celebrations in Pell City from 6-10 p.m. The event will feature an evening of dining and dancing, as each ticket includes a dinner of Cajun cuisine and a concert by The Wingnuts. Funds raised during the event offset the cost ASPCI’s foster, rescue and SNAP programs, as well as medical treatment for animals it accepts.

“We’re trying to make sure people in the community are aware of our continued efforts to save the lives of animals,” Treasurer Josephine Mitchell said.

Individual tickets are $45. For more about ASPCI’s programs, to purchase tickets or to help sponsor the 2016 Fur Ball, visit aspci.org.
