Springville Vista: Local high school fishers finish in top 10

The Springville Anglers had a top 10 finish at the B.A.S.S. Nation High School State Tournament, June 9 and 10 at Lake Wheeler. The Tournament results for the Springville Anglers were: Logan Henderson/Steven Swann placed 10th with 23.01 pounds, Bryant Nichols/Logan Preciado placed 71st with 10.14 pounds, Ryan Sweeney/Bradley Mueller placed 87th with 8.39 pounds and Graham Davis placed 154th with 3.04 pounds.

The High School Basketball program will host Tiger Basketball Camp July 25 – 28 from 9 a.m. – noon as a fundraiser. Cost is $50 per camper.

Congratulations to the Springville 10U All-Stars for winning the District Championships and Congratulations to the Springville 8U All-Stars for winning District Championship. Congratulations to Springville High School’s Meg Sullivan, Rain Brown, Abby Swaney and Kaylee Chapman for making the 2016 St. Clair All-County Softball Team.

Springville took the brunt of the storms that passed through our area Friday, June 17. A large portion of homes were without power, numerous roads were blocked by fallen trees, including I-59 and a house off Co. Hwy 24 caught fire due to a lightning strike.

Faith Community Fellowship Blockbuster Summer Series, “Drawn to the Movies” will be presented at FCF/Springville Sundays at 6 p.m., June 12 and July 17 at Springville Middle.

This week in June marks the 12th anniversary of The Deadliest Day in Birmingham Police History when three officers were gunned down. Officer Carlos Owen of Argo, Offiecer Harley Chrisholm III and Officer Charles Robert Bennett lost their lives during a drug arrest in Ensley. One officer, Mike Collins, survived the tragic event.

Congratulations to long time Springville residents and business owners Jack and Beverly Crumpton on their 64th wedding anniversary this month. The Crumptons owned the former House of Quilts, the Springville Antiques Mall and volunteer at the Thrift Store on Hwy 11.

The Springville Police Department is hosting a firearms safety class for the public. The cost of the class is $50, the fee includes firearms laws, weapon safety and weapon use. Must be 19 years of age or older and have a current pistol permit. Sign up at Springville City Hall, (205) 4676133.
