Ashville Drugs pharmacist to celebrate 50th anniversary in community

In 1974, Pharmacist Marion Lamon opened Ashville Drugs. It was located in downtown Ashville, on the town square. The pharmacy provided the town with local pharmaceutical care and personal service.

Half a century later, he is still focused on serving his customers with the same quality treatment. His satisfaction is based on knowing that his customers feel comfortable and secure every time they have a prescription filled.

Marion made it his goal to know everyone who came into his pharmacy by name. His favorite part of being in the business was the people that he cared for at his pharmacy.

“I genuinely love the people,” Lamon said. “They are what makes my job so enjoyable, they are what have kept me in the business for this long.”

The people recognize and reciprocate the sentiment. His loyal customers keep turning to Marion for his professional opinion and warm personality.

While Marion has made quite an impact on the community, the staff at Ashville Drugs has also been affected by him. Renee Came, a pharmacy technician has worked with him for 28 years.

“He has been the best person to work for,” Renee said. “He is always so even-tempered and a great leader.”

This attitude has endeared the pharmacist to his customers. He tries to lighten customers’ moods when they come into the pharmacy.

“He unfailingly puts his customers first,” Renee said. “He knows these people personally, knows about their families and they trust him.”

This trust is the foundation for Marion’s 50 years of success at Ashville Drugs. Even after selling his business in 2006 to Curt Eddy, who also serves the St. Clair community with two other hometown drugstores — Odenville Drugs and MainStreet Drugs in Pell City — Marion continues to be a part of the pharmacy and his customer’s lives. He typically arrives at the pharmacy early and is there to open it up and welcome the first customers in. He wants to continue the relationships he has formed over the years, as well as continuing his role as a community pharmacist. Marion is also still active in filling prescriptions and counseling customers on their medications.

After working with the same customers for years, he has grown accustomed to their medical history and pharmaceutical needs. This personal relationship allows him to better serve them as their pharmacist.

Ashville Drugs would like to congratulate Marion on 50 years at the pharmacy. This half-century of service has been filled with building lasting customer relationships and a dedication to quality service.

On Oct. 28, Ashville Drugs is welcoming members of the community to come out and celebrate Marion Lamon’s career. That morning, beginning at 7:30 a.m., they will be serving coffee and doughnuts to give people a chance to stop by and spend time with Marion and thank him for all he has done.
