Leeds/Moody News: Sign up for upcoming Police Academy
The City of Moody will host the Moody Citizens Police Academy. This is a 10-week program designed to give selected individuals a working knowledge of the Moody Police Department. It consists of weekly classes held on Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. beginning September 29. One class is held on a Saturday morning on the firing range. Weapons and ammunition will be provided for that day’s training; however, students who desire may bring their own firearm. There will be no cost to anyone selected for the program and classes are limited to 20 participants. It will be both educational and informative, while allowing citizens of Moody the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in Moody and St. Clair County. Individuals who apply for the Citizens Police Academy must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants will be subject to a background check and may be informed by writing, phone or email as to whether they have been accepted for the class. The Moody Citizens Police Academy is not designed to make participants certified police officers. The contents of this course are of an informative nature only and it is not intended for graduates to have any authority of or to act as police officers. This program is a great opportunity for community involvement and for citizens to learn about the many exciting aspects of police work. Deadline for submitting applications is September 9. For more information, please contact Sergeant Pete Hicks at (205) 640-0343 or phicks@moodyalabama.gov.
