Handmade and Homegrown: Antebellum Anne’s brings artisan style to Pell City

Walking into Antebellum Anne’s, you are immediately greeted with the smell of herbs and the sound of Beth Hoyle Waggoner welcoming you to her shop.

The concept for Antebellum Anne’s came to Beth over 15 years ago, in San Diego. While Beth was living in the city, she would visit a small town nearby to enjoy a more peaceful environment. There was a shop there that inspired her to one day own her own.

In March of 2015, Beth left her job in the Defense Industry, and relocated to her hometown of Pell City. The following May, she opened her doors for business.

The decision to chase that dream was not an easy one. The journey leading to Antebellum Anne’s was filled with soul-searching as Beth worked towards finding her own happiness.

She asked herself what she loved to do and what brought her the most joy. She had a passion for natural herbs, homemade soaps, infused salts and essential oils.

The desire to spend her days doing something she loved led Beth to rent a vacant shop on Cogswell Avenue, in downtown Pell City. She has filled the space with herbs, oils, candles, jewelry, antiques and more.

Beth works with local artists to bring unique merchandise into her shop.  Selling one-of-a-kind products is a characteristic she wants her shop to be known for.

“I don’t like cookie-cutter thing,” Beth said. “I’m kind of a free spirit and I want what I sell to reflect that and provide the community with options that are original and eccentric.”

Beth makes handmade soaps and refurbishes furniture with her unique mid-century style. Inside the store, you can find anything from unique terrariums, custom swinging beds, refurbished furniture, handcrafted natural stone jewelry and hand flint knapped arrowheads.

Beth has created an herb room, filled with natural products, essential oils and salts. From lavender oil to ginger root, the herb room is filled with quality herbs and oils.
