Cropwell Small Animal Hospital: Where you and your pet are a part of the family
When you take your pet to Cropwell Small Animal Hospital, every member of the staff has one goal in mind. There, your pet is just as much a member of the Cropwell Animal family as it is a member of yours, and because of that its care is the top priority.
This attitude comes from the man who founded Cropwell Small Animal Hospital, Dr. Galen H. Sims. Caring for animals is a task Dr. Sims takes personally. He was a key player in the conception of the county’s first humane society years ago. After its creation, he was president of the organization for a decade.

“I saw a need in the community and got together with others to do something about it,” Sims said. “I couldn’t bear to see animals without a home, and I wanted to do everything in my power to find a family for them.”
Sims opened Cropwell Small Animal Hospital in 1987 and has remained in the same location — 2308 Mays Drive, Cropwell — ever since. The clinic offers full veterinarian services, as well as grooming and boarding for your pet.
It’s not easy handing over a beloved pet to someone else, but owners can put their minds at ease by meeting with Cropwell Small Animal’s devoted team and visiting its well-maintained boarding facilities. The boarding area is completely indoors, with air conditioning and heating. The animals are cared for by staff members who make sure they are given the attention they need.
“I know people often feel as if their pet is a member of their family,” Sims said. “Taking the pet to the vet can be traumatic for the owner, as well as the pet, and we want to make them both feel safe and secure.”
Cropwell Small Animal also offers grooming services from professional veterinary technicians. The hospital provides thorough grooming ranging from bathing to nail clipping to pet dentistry and more.
“We offer grooming as a convenience for our customers,” Sims said. “The pet is already here with us, so we can groom them, too. It just makes it easier on the owner and saves them a trip somewhere else to get the pet groomed. They also already feel comfortable with us, so it helps the animals’ nerves.”
But every animal owner knows that boarding and grooming are secondary to their pet’s overall health. That’s why the animal hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art surgery equipment.
At the clinic, Cropwell Animal uses laser therapy that’s designed to treat an heal many types of injuries. The device is the same one used in the London Olympics to treat athletes, but in Cropwell it’s used to heal bites, tendons and back pain.
“Our staff is like family,” Dr. Sims said. “And our customers are drawn into that family. When they come in, their biggest concern is their pet, and that becomes my biggest concern.”
At Cropwell Small Animal Hospital, care for animals goes beyond typical veterinarian treatment. The office has several dogs and cats it is housing until the animals are adopted by a caring family.
