Local Sounds returns with ‘Time in a Bottle’ Feb. 16

Alan Furr and Glenn Wilson, members of The WingNuts (who will return to CEPA on March 16 with Rock & Roll Legends, Vol 2), have worked for months on a performance featuring the songs of Jim Croce. Now, they’re ready to bring it to the stage for one night only at CEPA in Pell City.

Croce was an immensely popular folk singer and songwriter from the late 1960s and early 1970s known for hits like “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim” and “Time in a Bottle.”

Croce’s songs reflected the people he met throughout his life, a life that was cut short by a tragic accident in 1973. In this show at CEPA, Furr and Wilson will give the story of the man behind these songs.

In addition, the duo of Pell City’s Julie Funderburg and Jamison Taylor will kick off the night playing their renditions of classic tunes. Funderburg is a local artist and performer, and Taylor owns and operates Jamison Taylor’s School of Music in downtown Pell City.

The Local Sounds series provides residents of St. Clair County with a powerful music series that’s affordable for families. Tickets online are $7 for adults. And kids always attend Local Sounds shows for free at CEPA, the Center for Education and Performing Arts in Pell City.

“Following the tremendous success of January’s Local Sounds show featuring CJ O’Neal and Ingrid Marie is no easy task, but we think we have something incredibly special with these performers and their choices of music,” CEPA Executive Director Jeff Thompson said.

Tickets are available now at pellcitycepa.com/tickets. They will also be available at the facility, located at 25 Williamson Drive, Pell City, beginning at 6 p.m. on Feb. 16.

For more information, call the CEPA office at 205-338-1974 and leave a message or email director@pellcitycepa.com.
