Meet the Candidates forum held in Legacy Springs

Four candidates participated in a Meet the Candidates forum Tuesday night at Legacy Springs in Springville.

Candidates for St. Clair County Sheriff and St Clair County Board of Education Superintendent gathered for the opportunity to introduce their platform and answer questions but only three chose to participate in the questions.

Roy Mullins, who is running against Billy Murray for St. Clair County Sheriff, opted out of the question portion citing, “There were some questions that were going to be asked, and some of the questions were worded differently than I originally had written.” Mullins also stated that he would be glad to answer any questions one on one after the event.

When asked how they felt about the forum and the questions, the other three candidates: Billy Murray for Sheriff, and Gregg Cobb and Mike Howard for St. Clair County Superintendent, all stated they felt the questions were fair.

Gregg Cobb stated that the forum gave “the best opportunity to present our thought and views” and asked that people “do their homework and become informed.”

Mike Howard said, “The event was very positive with a wide variety of questions on multiple topics that gave adequate opportunity to portray our platform.”

Billy Murray said he felt “it went well and it was an honor and a privilege [to be invited to forum].”

The statewide primary election will be held on June 5 and the general election will be on Nov. 6 this year.
