St. Clair County Extension offers Hardwood Forest Management Workshop in Odenville
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System has collaborated with the University of Tennessee Extension to offer a workshop on managing hardwood forests, especially ones that have been damaged or degraded by years of logging.
The workshop will be on Tuesday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church located at 19436 US Hwy 411, Springville. Cost is $25 per person and refreshments, lunch, and materials will be included. You must pre-register to attend no later than March 1.
Degraded or low quality hardwood stands are often a result of repeatedly harvesting the largest and best trees and leaving the smaller, inferior trees. The smaller trees do not have a chance to prosper and are often incapable of continued growth with their small, spindly crowns.
This workshop will summarize management techniques for managing and regenerating hardwood stands, as well as retaining oak trees and managing upland hardwoods for wildlife. The afternoon portion will include demonstrations at a nearby Odenville farm.
To register for the workshop, please call the St. Clair County Extension Office at 205-338-9416. For questions, please call Regional Extension Agent Spenser Bradley at 256-303-4924.
