Senior Profiles: Deanna Schultes / Victory Christian School

Parents:  Mark and Ginger Schultes.

GPA:  4.037

After graduation:  She plans to attend Jefferson State Community College before transferring to University of Alabama at Birmingham.  “I want to do something that involves working with kids.  I’m thinking speech, possibly.  I teach dance now, and it’s cool to see kids learn something new and make progress.”

School activities:  Beta Club, Student Leadership Association, and varsity softball.

An anxious moment from the region softball tournament:  In an early inning against Sulligent, Deanna was pitching with two outs and the bases loaded.  She struck out the batter at the plate, allowing the Lady Lions a scoreless inning.  “I didn’t think I could do it, but once I did, I realized it was possible.  When it comes to softball, I usually play shortstop, so pitching is not my strongest position.  It’s exciting when I strike somebody out.”

The greatest challenge facing a high school senor:  “Decisions.  Where to go to college, what to major in, those things.”

Something with which she disagrees:  “When people say that students shouldn’t have jobs during high school.  It is possible to do both.  I’ve had a job since I was 15.  I pay my own car payment and insurance and still kept my grades up.”

Addressing a wrong perception:  “People look at high school students like all we want to do is party.  We’re not all like that.  Not all teenagers smoke and drink and do things like that.”
