Alverson wins Pell City Council seat after provisional votes tallied

On Aug. 30, Jud Alverson was officially declared the winner of the Pell City District 5 Council election. Alverson claimed three additional votes from provisional ballots, which gave him the number required to beat out competitor Terry Templin. Templin and Alverson were set to face off in a runoff election, but that will no longer be necessary.

During the regular election on Aug. 23, three candidates competed for the District 5 seat. Alverson came out with 50 percent of the votes, but to win he needed 50 percent and one vote. Alverson finished with a total 339 votes, with Templin claiming 193.

Alverson will join the new Council on Nov. 7. The Council will include Jay Jenkins, James McGowan, Blaine Henderson and Jason Mitcham. Bill Pruitt was also voted the next mayor at the Aug. 23 election.
