Pell City High School JROTC cadets place first in statewide drill meet
The Pell City High School Army JROTC competed on March 5 in the Sidney Lanier High School Drill Meet. Over 20 high schools across the state of Alabama competed this year in Physical Fitness, Academics, Rifle, Drill and Ceremony, and Color Guard divisions.
Pell City won the overall Championship Trophy. This is the second year in a row that Pell City has won this competition.
“This tournament is a really big one for us,” PCHS Sergeant First Class Richard Agnew said. “It really solidifies which JROTC programs are the best in the state.”
Cadet Lieutenant Elizabeth Shirey, Commander of the Pell City Battalion and Drill Team Commander, led her team to two first place awards.
Cadet Major Ricardo Ortiz won first place individually in the Academic test with a perfect score.
Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Alana Payne, commander of the Pell City Color Guard team, led the color guard to two first place awards.
Cadet Sergeant Major Ricky Cox, Commander of the Pell City Physical Fitness, guided his team to a first place award. The Physical Fitness team has won every drill meet in the state of Alabama for the last two years
“The kids did an outstanding job,” Agnew said. “We are very proud of them and we are all looking forward to our upcoming competitions.”
