On Tuesday, December 18, the Springville Civil Air Patrol, CAP-126 held the First Annual Springville Cadet Squadron AL126 Formal Christmas Ball. Thank you to 2nd Lt. Dawn Bell and Mrs. Amy Carrier for working so hard on making the Christmas Ball possible. Also, a big thank you to Josh Carrier and Mary Myers for making the delicious meal. Chief Richard Harvey of the Springville Fire Department was the guest speaker for the event.

Congratulations to Springville Anglers, Brent Cowley and Mason Beck, along with their boat captain, Chris Beck. They competed and placed 9th, with a weight of 15.96 lbs in the December 15-16, 2019, Alabama B.A.S.S. Nation High School tournament on Lake Pickwick.

The SHS Boys Basketball Team won the Champion Sports Academy Christmas Tournament in Alexandria on Saturday, December 22 against White Plains with a score of 52-45.

The SHS Tiger Marching Band has been selected to perform in Governor Kay Ivey’s  Inaugural Parade in Montgomery, Alabama at the Alabama State Capitol on January 14, 2019.

The Springville Preservation Society is now taking reservations for use of the historic “Little House” located adjacent to the Police Department for events or meetings. Rates are $25 for 2 hours, $50 for four hours and $100 per day. Contact Sara Trotter or reservations at 205-467-3000.

Springville Police Department is presenting a Firearms Safety course, which is open to the public. The course includes two hour classroom training and two hours actual training on the firing range by two certified NRA instructors. You may sign up by calling Lauri Jones at 205-467-6133. The next class will be posted soon.

The Springville Civil Air Patrol meets every Tuesday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. The age requirement is 12-18 years of age and adults may also join as senior members. Cadets learn leadership skills, aerospace, character development, as well as team work and piloting skills.
