Springville Vista: Votes are in, see who won council elections

The Springville High School Tigers football team worked the Springville Elementary School car line Friday morning, Aug. 26.

Springville had three districts in contest for the city council elections, Tuesday, Aug. 23. David Jones, incumbent, defeated Gena Mullen by only 12 votes in District 6 with a final vote count of 67 to 55. In District 1, incumbent Herbert Toles held on to his seat with a vote count of 71 to 22 over Ronnie Newsome. In District 7 Sherry Reaves beat out Charles Jones 129 to 44.

The Springville Fire Department is taking donations at Station #1 on Walker Street on behalf of the St. Clair County EMA to benefit flood victims in Denham Springs, LA.

Storytime at Springville Library is held each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Crafts and snacks are available along with a story.

The Springville Tigers High School Football team lost in their season opener, 7-8, Friday, Aug. 26 against Moody.

The Springville Homecoming Parade is Friday, Sept. 16! Schools will dismiss at noon in preparation for the festivities.

One Eighty Church will host the “Cruisin’ For Christ” Fourth Annual Car Show and Swap Meet, Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. They will have food and music. Proceeds will help fund Celebrate Recovery, a Christian-based program that helps people with psychological conditions such as anxiety and addiction.

The Springville Cross Country Track Team is hosting The Tiger Pride 5K Run and One Mile Fun Run, Saturday, Oct. 29. Details coming soon.

The Springville Civil Air Patrol meets every Tuesday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. The age requirement is 12-18 years of age and adults may also join as senior members. Cadets learn leadership skills, aerospace, character development, as well as team work. Cadets also learn piloting skills.
