Week 9: Ashville highlights and previews
Walter Wellborn 41 Ashville Bulldogs 40
In a wild ride on Friday, in which Walter Wellborn surged ahead early with a 14-0 lead, a furious Ashville comeback led by quarterback Judd Mundy got the Bulldogs to within one point late in the fourth quarter with an eight yard touchdown run by Hunter Huckbay, and headed towards a two-point conversion. Unfortunately, a Mundy pass into the end zone was broken up by a Panthers defender, handing Ashville its sixth, and most painful, loss of the season.
Ashville’s offense was explosive all night, generating 490 yards, 222 of which were through the air. Mundy threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the valiant effort against the Panthers.
Week 9 matchup: Ashville (2-6) @ Westbrook Christian (2-6)
The Warriors’ prolific offense centers around senior quarterback Joseph Schauer, who is a big kid with a big arm, who spreads the ball around the field to his brother Andrew Schauer, as well as the speedy receiver Justis Glassford and Chandler Richards, who plays out of the slot and catches a lot of under routes. This group of players showed a lot of offensive punch during the first half of the season, but in the last four games the Warriors have averaged seven points per game, while giving up more than 35 points per game. Look for another fun, offensive shootout this week.
