Week 9: St. Clair County highlights and previews
Anniston 8 St. Clair Co. 0
An uncharacteristic offensive fail struck St. Clair County last Friday, who suffered through their first shutout since August 2007 in a defensive struggle against Anniston that eliminated the Fighting Saints from playoff contention.
A safety off a blocked Saints punt late in the first half along with an eight yard touchdown run by Bulldogs quarterback Tae Miller with less than two minutes remaining in the game gave Anniston all the points they needed to secure a crucial victory this past week.
Week 9 Matchup: St. Clair County (3-5) @ Hayden (5-3)
The Saints’ season doesn’t get any easier as they head out to Hayden, who have improved greatly this season compared to the past few campaigns. The Wildcats are led by quarterback Tim Curry, an athletic and dangerous player with great physicality and an excellent open field runner. Supporting Curry out of the backfield is junior running back Leonard Johnson, a rangy, 6’3” athlete with great vision and instinctive moves and who exhibits impressive bursts of speed.
On defense, Moody needs to work at getting to linebacker Jeremy Stanfield, a beast who loves to rip into the backfield and disrupt game plans.
