Birthday wishes go out to my sweet sister-in-law, Jackie Thomas, one of my “favorite” sons-in-law, Ricky Adams and his twin brother, Ronny. Also, special birthday wishes to my great-granddaughter, McKiley Doty, daughter of Nick and Emily Vaughan Doty.

My granddaughter, Kayla and her husband, Beaux, drove to visit her parents and me this weekend. Kayla, my daughter, Annette, my sister, Ann, and I ate lunch at the Wake Zone to celebrate Kayla’s 22nd birthday. My daughter, Laura, brought her grandchildren, Asher and Gage, by to say hello.

VBS:

Vacation Bible School at Cropwell Baptist begins Sunday, July 17 and will run through July 20 (6:30-8:30 p.m.). Registration is open for rising 4K- rising 6th graders as well as volunteers. Go to www.cropwellbaptist.org for more information.

CEPA:

The Wingnuts are back with, “Run Through the Jungle,” a tribute to America’s veterans and will be held Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at CEPA in Pell City. Named after the iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival song, “Run Through the Jungle” is a spectacle of sound and visuals. On Friday, August 5, A Magical Evening returns to the Center for Education and Performing Arts in Pell City. The show will start at 5:15 p.m. with the return of close-up magic in the lobby. The stage show begins at 6 p.m.

This fantastical, family-friendly showcase features some of the state’s most electrifying illusionists. Reaves, who is currently touring the Southeast with his new show “An Evening of Deception (eveningofdeception.com), has won numerous awards for his illusions, including Birmingham’s “Magician of the Year” five times, WCM People’s Choice Award, Close-Up Champion, and many others.

He will be joined again at CEPA in 2022 by David Merlin – The Paranormalist. Merlin’s show has taken him all around the world to perform for thousands of people from every continent. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Local:

13th Annual Fundraising Banquet Baby Shower for Ann’s New Life Center will be Thurs. Aug 18th from 6-8:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Pell City. This is non-profit faith-based pregnancy center dedicated to equipping, encouraging, and educating anyone in St. Clair County and beyond needing a helping hand during an unplanned or crisis pregnancy. Everything they do is completely FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. There is no judgement here. Only grace, mercy, and the love of Jesus Christ. The 8th Annual Bulls on the Lake Rodeo will be Sat. July 23, 8-11 p.m. Come on out for a jam-packed night of fun, with entertaining events like bull riding, mutton busting, rodeo clowns, activities and games for the kids, food vendors, drinks, and more! Proceeds from this rodeo go right back to our FFA Chapter! Please come out and support your students! Tickets will also be sold at the gate or buy tickets online at Pell City Bulls on the Lake Tickets. Adults $15, Kids 6-12 years old $10, Kids 5-under free. The Jr. Rodeo will be Fri. July 22 at 7 p.m.

Alabama will hold its 17th annual sales tax holiday, beginning Friday, July 15 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 17 at 12 midnight, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, diapers, and clothing free of the state’s 4% state sales tax. Local sales tax may apply.
