Sharing the spirit of giving
The Tower of Prayer Church gave away over 800 canned goods to hundreds of individuals in Leeds, as well as free hair cuts and clothes.
The church in Leeds hosted Hope in the Home, a Thanksgiving Community Giveaway for families in need on Nov. 12.
The event was held at Moton Park and the items given away were donated from church members and members of the community. Besides free groceries, the giveaway included clothes, haircuts, fun and games for kids, medical screenings and a blood drive, according to Overseer Shaemun Webster, senior pastor of The Tower of Prayer Church.
“This is the Tower of Prayer Church’s way of assisting families in need as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches,” Webster said.
Of the hundreds of cans given away, the majority were from inside the church, donated in an Auburn Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide competition held by the congregation.
The Tower of Prayer’s Hope in the Home Thanksgiving Community Giveaway is part of the Church’s Servolution ministry, which has provided free groceries, clothing, haircuts and medical screenings to over 1,500 individuals over the past three years. The event is based on 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which says “Give thanks in all circumstances.”
On Sept. 24, the church gave away nearly 100 stuffed shirts filled with canned goods for the homeless in Birmingham’s Linn Park. In May, the congregation provided free meals and water to over 100 homeless individuals in Linn Park. This is the second annual Hope in the Home held in Leeds.
