What’s Up in Odenville

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs played for the National Championship held Monday night. Most of my readers know that I am a die hard Auburn fan, so deciding who to pull for in this game posed a bit of a problem. If I pulled for Georgia, then I would be a “Bama Hater”. If I pulled for Alabama, then I wouldn’t be a true Auburn Fan (or worse, a closet Bama fan). I took to social media to express my delimna and I was given sound advice – not to pull for who I wanted to win the MOST, instead pull for who I wanted to lose the LEAST.

That’s exactly what I did.

Greg Cobb received a Christmas gift to remember this Christmas. Eden Career Tech students, under the leadership of Marcus Graves (and at the request of Greg’s wife Angie), gave new life to beautiful piece of furniture that holds such deep memories for Greg.

Greg’s father passed away in 1981 and his mom requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Bethel Church Organ Fund, as they were in need of a new one. Soon there was enough to buy a beautiful, mahogany organ. There was even a plaque on the side that had Greg’s father’s name on it with “It Is Finished” inscribed under the name.

After many years it was time to replace the old organ with more updated equipment, as it no longer worked and the part to fix it was no longer available. It was moved to the hallway where it was covered and left for years.

In August of 2017, the plaque was removed and presented to Greg, and the organ was removed as a “proper donor” had been found. For Christmas, Angie surprised Greg with the organ, now made into a beautiful roll top desk. Greg wrote on social media “This old organ, although only a shell of what it once was, reminds me that God is still working on me/us. If we allow Him, He will make us useful, fresh and new again. Thank you to all of our family friends that moved this heavy piece of furniture only to surprise a middle-aged man that has such a legacy through Bethel and those who have gone before.” Well done folks. Well done.
