Local players boost Metro Express to success
Comprised largely of players from Leeds and St. Clair County, the Birmingham Metro Express basketball team finished third in the Male 14 & Under Competitive division of the Alabama Sports Festival.
Metro defeated Stockton (52-39), Homewood (34-29) and Tallassee Recreation (57-29) before being edged out by Alexander City 40-38. The team pounded Homewood 41-18 to win the bronze medal game and finish the festival with a 4-1 record.
Jacoby Lockhart of Leeds was the high scorer in three of the games, with a total of 37 points. Leeds’ Adam Mitchell had the high score of 12 points in the rematch with Homewood.
