Mayor Bill Hereford said this week that Pell City should have a new fire chief before the end of summer.

The statement was made after Monday’s council meeting, during which the panel voted to advertise again for candidates for the position.  Councilman Greg Gossett recommended that the job description be amended to require out-of-state applicants to have fire certification for Alabama. 

Council members agreed to postpone until next month a discussion about the vacant parks and recreation director’s position.  Hereford said that the interim fire chief and parks director would remain at their posts until both positions are filled.
