PCHS JROTC attend leadership camp
Last week, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to noon., JROTC cadets attended a leadership camp for the upcoming LET II’s, LET III’s, and LET VI’s.
The camp is taught by all the instructors, who change up who is teaching it year by year. This year the camp was taught by Sergeant Major James Bryant who said, “This camp is to refresh the memories of the cadets, and help them find out what they need to improve, work on it with them and see if they do improve.”
This is the sixth year, of the eight that the program has been at Pell City, that the JROTC has had a summer leadership program in place. “It gives them a head start on getting their uniforms and getting ready for the school year.” Sergeant Major Bryant said.
On their first day of camp students were in the old gym behind the JROTC building calling commands to help them see how much different it is being the person who is in charge of a platoon, than being a person in the platoon.
When doing that the students were also taught how to instruct their fellow students in the various physical training exercises and stationary movements.
Tuesday the cadets were taught how to demonstrate things to the other students they will be interacting with throughout the school year. Wednesday, cadets were taught how to put together the uniforms for female and male enlisted or officer cadets.
Thursday students participated in community service by taking copy paper up to the school and distributing it through out to each of the teachers who needed it.
