Musical Pair Dolcé Duo to entertain Wednesday in Pell City

The musical talents of two outstanding performing artists come together for the holiday season Dec. 15 at noon, as the Pell City Library welcomes the Dolcé Duo for its Wild and Wonderful Wednesday series.

This pair, flutist, Lisa Davis, and her husband, guitarist, Stan Putnam, have over 30 years of combined professional experience in the performing arts.

Known for their fullness of sound, warmth and beauty of presentation, the couple is able to perform from an extensive repertoire that ranges from jazzy arrangements of popular songs, Latin tangos, and Celtic melodies to elegant classical selections from the masters.

Individually, Lisa and Stan have extensive musical performance experience.  Lisa is a native of the Pacific Northwest who began serious flute studies at the age of fourteen.

She was awarded performance scholarships for study at the Boston Conservatory of Music and at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California.  She received a full scholarship to, and graduated from, the prestigious Custis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she studied under the renowned flutist, Julius Baker.

Ms. Davis has worked with many leading conductors, as an orchestral flutist, including the late Eugene Ormandy, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Robert Shaw, and Claudio Abado.

She has performed as a soloist from coast to coast, and locally with the Birmingham Chamber Music Society, the Artburst series of concerts, and at Birmingham City Stages Festival.  Ms. Davis has been featured in solo radio recitals on WQXR in New York and WUHY in Philadelphia.  She has taught for music departments at Birmingham Southern and The University of Alabama in Birmingham.

She was able to share her knowledge of classical music for many years, serving as on-air announcer for Birmingham’s WBHM-FM.  She currently teaches private lessons from her home in Hoover.

Mr. Putnam began playing the guitar at the age of thirteen, experimenting with various musical styles, including bluegrass and rock, jazz and classical genres.

The influence of diverse musical styles permeates Stan’s performance and affords him a great sensitivity to his audience. That experience also adds a special flavor and richness to his performance and contributes to the extensive repertoire performed by Dolcé Duo.

Also a member of the Rosewood Trio, Mr. Putnam has performed professionally at concert and private venues throughout the Southeast for the past 25 years.

When not practicing and performing music, Mr. Putnam serves as Director of Technology and Information Services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Lisa Davis and Stan Putnam, will blend and ignite their musical talents next Wednesday.

Expect classical and seasonal favorites for a holiday spectacular.  The concert is free and open to the public, and one that you will not want to miss.

Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the library.
