Lake Logan Martin saw few arrests during ‘busy’ Memorial Day weekend
“It was a very busy weekend,” Pell City Police Chief Greg Turley summed up his department’s actions in The Gateway City over the Memorial Day weekend. “We had a lot of fights unfortunately. On the water it was very, very busy.”
The Pell City Marine Patrol Unit, in conjunction with the Alabama Marine Police maintained the waterways on Logan Martin Lake.
Chief Turley said Saturday on the lake was active, Sunday was moderate while “for Monday whereas I thought most folks would go back to the house, it was really busy.”
There was one boating accident in Riverside on the Coosa River near the railroad crossing when a stationary boat was hit by a moving vessel. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Two jet skis ran from the state patrol on the water and one person arrested for boating under the influence, Turley said.
There were 20 violators cited at motor vehicle checkpoints in Pell City.
Three DL Checkpoints were conducted Memorial Day weekend. 121 vehicles were checked, resulting in three DUI arrests, eight insurance violations, a driver’s license restriction violation, two expired tag violations, two equipment violations, one no driver’s license violation, 1 DWR, one open container violation and expired driver’s license.
The Click It or Ticket Officers wrote 74 tickets over the weekend. This includes but was not limited to DUI arrests down to seatbelt violations.
