Click it or Ticket Big Success

Chief Greg Turley said that the Pell City Police Department’s Click It or Ticket campaign was a success and highlighted a safe populace.

“I think that because of the weather we’ve had this year that a lot of people didn’t get out,” Turley said of the number of people who were on the roadway this past Memorial Day weekend.

The PCPD Memorial Day weekend crackdown saw:

*139 tickets issued

* 12 accidents

* 2 DUI arrests

* 24 total seatbelt violations

* 2 revoked license violations* 17 citations for no insurance

* “A slew” of window tint violations, according to Turley

* 1 child restraint violation and

* 1 reckless driving citation

During the weekend’s crackdown, law enforcement officers were aggressively looking at anything from car tag certification, to seatbelt violations and DUI’s in an effort to keep the streets safer during the holiday weekend.

Turley said that while there were some accidents, that there were not any serious ones.

Turley gave credit to “the citizens themselves; they are the ones we should be complimenting because as most of these citations here show, that as for the many thousands that passed through these Pell City streets this past weekend, to have just a couple of seatbelt violations speaks volumes about the public and the community here.”

The campaign was initiated after federal grant money was secured that paid for the officers to be out patrolling during what can sometimes be a deadly weekend on highways and interstates
