Springville Student Gets Capitol Treatment Through His Artwork
After being chosen to showcase his self portrait in Montgomery, Springville fifth grader Beau Dean had the opportunity to tour the capitol and visit with the governor.
His portrait was chosen as part of a statewide contest that was narrowed down from schools across this county.
After Superintendent Jenny Seals selected Beau’s art for the county’s submission, it was off to be shown in Montgomery.
His art teacher, Lara McClendon, said Beau’s talent stands out amongst his peers.
“He is one of the most gifted kids I have ever seen,” she said. “His raw skill is unbelievable. He sees things and is able to draw them with a skill that very few kids can achieve.”
Last Tuesday Beau got a chance to go see his work at the capitol and tour the statehouse and historic venues, such as Old Alabama Town.
Beau talked about touring the capitol. “It was really cold but it was really fun. I really liked the artroom. It had a lot of pictures and it was different than I expected it to be. There were portraits, painting and mixed media… I’m just glad I got to go to Montgomery. I really didn’t think I’d win here.”
Beau said his favorite from of art is sketching.
