Argo wants to hear from public on mobile home zoning

The City of Argo Zoning Board will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. to discuss zoning for manufactured homes.

“Due to economical changes, the area lends itself to zoning for manufactured homes,” chairman of the zoning board, Jim Link said.

The public hearing will also address questions that have been raised related to FEMA housing.

A copy of the proposed ordinance and zoning map will be presented, and anyone who wishes to speak before the public will be allotted two minutes.  After the hearing the zoning board will make a recommendation for zoning to the council and, a final ordinance will be agreed on.

The proposed map, available for public viewing, is posted at the Argo Municipal Complex, William’s Orchard, Buckeye’s Grocery, Argo Video, Fox’s Pizza and Argo Hardware.

At last Wednesday’s city council meeting, councilman Bill Rutledge proposed the city’s police department charge a fee for finger printing.  Within the last month, two requests for finger printing have been made.  A fee has never been charged for finger printing, but it is a service that costs the department.

“It’s a service we offer,” Rutledge said.  “We have to buy the necessary forms, and officers have to take time away from what they are doing to make the finger prints.  If we charged a $35 fee, we could at least break even.”

The council plans to draw up a resolution for the fee proposal that will be up for discussion and approval at the next regular meeting.

In other actions:

—Bill Melvin, owner of the new Codzilla’s Restaurant requested the council provide a letter of approval for him to obtain a Type 020 Restaurant Retail Liquor License in order to sell alcohol at the restaurant.  This is the first liquor license the council will approve for the City of Argo.  Since Melvin meets the required zoning criteria, they agreed to grant the letter of approval.

—The council voted to consider the 2012 Statement of Commitment for Municipal Workers Compensation.  The Statement of Commitment discusses safety issues for city employees as they pertain to compensation.  The council voted to give Mayor Paul Jennings authorization to sign the Statement of Commitment on behalf of the city.

—The council approved authorization for Mayor Jennings to sign the Medical Protocol for Municipal Workers Compensation.  Information provided in the medical protocol includes information about which doctors to see and which hospitals city employees should be taken to if hurt on the job.  The city has an account set up with American Family Care.  By signing the protocol the city saves three percent on overall expenses.

—Finishing touches have been put into place on the “Welcome to Argo” sign.  Plans are being made to lay down more foliage in the spring, after the cold and rainy season has passed.
