Wattsville man shoots self after standoff

A Wattsville man died after shooting himself after a standoff with authorities, the St. Clair Sheriff’s Department said.

Aaron Manning was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. a week last Thursday after he was taken to St. Vincent-St. Clair Hospital.

According to reports, Manning, who resided at 2335 Manning Road, barricaded himself inside his home some time after a call was received by Central Dispatch concerning gunshots fired.

Manning was apparently firing at the home across the road from his singlewide trailer. Negotiations ensued and the county’s SWAT team tried to get Manning to surrender.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is handling the case, since the SWAT team was on the scene when Manning shot himself.
