Margaret’s North Valley Church consigns for a cause

Members of North Valley Church consigned with a mission this past Saturday with the first Valley Kids Consignment Sale.

Coordinating consignment efforts was two-year North Valley member, Erin Bounds.

Bounds two children attend North Valley’s Early Learning Center, which meant this consignment was done for a cause. A portion of the proceeds went the early learning center and the North Valley’s children’s ministry.

Spreading the word by posting the sale on Facebook and Craigslist, this volunteer driven group also set up a website, www.valleykidssale.com.

Item ranged from books to bibs and play clothes to pack-n-plays; 55 consignors joined forces to put money in their pockets as well as give back to North Valley Church.

Approximately 7,000 items were consigned with over 250 transactions made during the two day sale.

As customers perused the endless racks of goodies then proceeded to the check-out, comments such as “The find of the day was a $7.50 dress,” were overheard.

Another bargain hunting mom, Tracee Hudson had her favorite girl, her 14-month-old daughter, Taylor, accompany her to the sale. “I’m a stay at home mom so, I’m always looking to stay on budget,” noted Hudson.

Hudson heard about the sale from her “go-to” website, Birmingham Bargain Mom, and made her way from Roebuck to discover some deals for the diaper bag and beyond.

With 25 volunteers on Bounds’ team, ladies greeted customers as they entered and helped guide them along the way inside the sale. Two volunteers were stationed at the bagging area while two more completed checkouts. Excited to have gotten a preview while setting up and had the opportunity to snatch up unclaimed items at the end of the sale, volunteer Brandi Reedy said, “I’m on my third round. I keep seeing things I haven’t seen before.”

Jennifer Swallows, another volunteer, added, “I’ve been helping all week. I’ve literally lived and breathed this all week. It’s been fun and it helps out our children’s ministry.”

The success of the first Valley Kids Consignment Sale has led the group to pursue putting on the event two times a year. “Our goal is to have consignment sales in the fall and spring,” commented Bounds. As families on the prowl for bargains made their way through the Valley Kids Consignment Sale, deals were delivered and customers supported the cause.
