The road of woes continues for the Moody Blue Devils as they traveled to John Carrol last Friday night and lost a tough one with a final score of 13 – 7. It was the first win for the Cavaliers in a long while. Moody falls to 2 – 3 (1 – 2) and will face Woodlawn tomorrow night for Homecoming.

The Cavaliers hit the Blue Devils early in the game to let them know they were here to play. They connected on a 52 yard pass play that put them all the way down to the Moody seven yard line. Big running back, for the Cavalierss, Dametrious Battle plunged into the end zone for the games first score. The two point trick play did not work, but the Cavs led 6 – 0 with 10:03 left in the first quarter.

The Cavs defense stopped the Blue Devil offense in three plays to get the ball back. John Carroll put together a long drive that was kept alive thanks to a pass interference penalty and a holding penalty, both on third and long plays. Once again the Cavs found themselves inside the Moody ten and once again Battle bowled his way into the end zone. This time from four yards out. The extra point was good and at the end of the first quarter the Cavs enjoyed a 13 – 0 lead.

The Blue Devils had the ball to start the second quarter. A 34 yard pass play from Loui Goff to Kyle Ivy put the Blue Devils at the Cavaliers’ 15 yard line. Facing 4th and 1 at the six yard line, Goff handed the ball off to Gabe Webb and he ran over a defender going into the end zone for the score. The extra point was good. Moody trained 13 – 7 at half time.

The score remained the same through the third quarter and into the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils had a great drive going in the fourth quarter that put them into Cavaliers’ territory, but Moody fumbled during the drive and John Carrol recovered. They slowly but surely ran out the clock and got the 13 – 7 win on their Homecoming for the Cavaliers.

Gabe Webb was the work-horse for the night with 201 yards on 31 carries. The Blue Devils will have a two game home stand the next two weeks. Tomorrow night the Woodlawn Cornels come calling for Homecoming. Next week the Wenonah Dragons come to town. Both of these games are region games. Kickoff for tomorrow night’s homecoming game is set for 7 p.m.
