The Church of the Highlands had a drive-thru Prayer Day on Saturday in Pell City. Eight people committed their lives to Jesus at the drive-thru prayer serve. They had almost 40 people come out to serve the city by setting up, cooking, packing lunches, handing out drinks, holding signs, worshiping and praying over our Pell City community. In addition, they gave away 300 meals.

Easter Egg Hunts

Mt. Pisgah will hold its Family Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, March 16. This event will take place from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and will include age divided egg hunts, candy, prizes and more. You are invited and bring your friends.

Lakewood Presbyterian Church will hold its Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m..

The Harvest Center will hold its egg hunt on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Free food, games and bounce houses.

Victory Church’s Annual Balloon Drop Easter Egg Hunt is on Sunday, March 24 right after the 10:30 a.m. service at both the Pell City and Talladega campuses. Grab your favorite Easter basket and join in for this free fun afternoon of balloons, candy and Easter eggs for your kids.

School

Congratulations to 4th grader, Caleb Whitten. His incredible history fair project on the John Looney House won first place in Eden’s competition, so he represented the school in the countywide competition, and first place in the Annual St. Clair County/Historical Society History Fair. There were more than 400 projects judged within all schools’ competitions.

Pell City High School presents Prom Night, “A Night in the Magic City” on Friday, March 22 at the B&A Warehouse in Birmingham beginning at 8 p.m. Check out the PCHS website for more information.

Sports

Congratulations to Victory Christian Lady Lions basketball player, Hailey Hendrix on being selected as a Region Winner in the 2024 Bryant Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship program.

The Pell City High School Fishing Team fished ASABFA at Lake Martin on Saturday. Senior Division had 166 boats in their tournament and placed 3rd overall. Landen Knight and Ryan Greene placed 1st. Landon Knight won “Big Fish.” Garrett Knight and Graham Knight placed 14th. Junior Division placed 5th overall. Gabe Graham and Jesse McClain placed first. Pell City won 1st place in both divisions.

A big congratulations to the band programs of Pell City High School and Duran Junior High School. They performed at the Alabama Bandmasters Association District II Music Performance Assessment (MPA) in Gadsden. Pell City High School’s Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands each earned straight ones (highest rating). This is the first time PCHS has had two bands receive ratings at MPA. Duran Junior High’s Concert Band, while not performing for ratings, received very positive feedback from the adjudicators.

The Dancing with Our Stars was a big success. Again, the Pell City Line Dancers were able to present the Pell City Police Department with a check for more than $30,000.

Did you know that 22 percent of people from the age of 16 to 74 in St. Clair County cannot currently read on a fourth-grade level. The St. Clair County Chapter of the Central Alabama Literacy Council aims to change that. The Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee returned to the Pell City Center for Education and the Performing Arts on Tuesday. This is the largest fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, which helps people throughout St. Clair County become more proficient at reading.

Terry Turner will appear at Jumbo’s on Old Coal City Rd on Saturday, March 23 from 5-7 p.m. Tickets are $20 (Does not include food) and seats can be reserved at tcbshows.com.
