We hope that you had a very Merry Christmas and have a safe New Year.
Birthdays: Happy birthday to our granddaughter, Hadley Nicole Byrd. Hadley is Annette’s great-granddaughter and my great-great-granddaughter. She turned one on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Deaths: Please keep the families of Scott Fields, Frederick Albert Viohl, Faye Oden and Patricia Cox Sobolowski in your thoughts and prayers.
Sports: The Pell City High School Varsity Basketball team had a successful Christmas Tournament in Fort Payne last week. While losing to South Atlanta, they won against Boaz and Orange Beach.
You can sign your child up for Upward Basketball or cheerleading, hosted by Eden Westside Baptist Church by going to registration.upward.org. Basketball is for boys and girls K5-9th grade. Cheerleading is for girls K4-9th grade.
Congratulations to the Victory Christian Lions basketball teams. The boys’ record is 10-7. The girls record is 12-4.
Congratulations to the PCHS Girls basketball team who have a record of 12-5.
Congratulations to Heaven O’Neal on her commitment to Gadsden State where she will further her academic and athletic career.
Local: “Lights in the Park” is now open at Pell City Lakeside Park until Jan. 2, from 4-9 p.m. There are more than 70 displays this year, so take a ride through. We rode through it Saturday night and it is better this year than ever before. Thanks to all who put displays there for us to enjoy.
On really cold nights, St. Clair County has warming stations in Ashville and Pell City at the St. Clair County Courthouse basements. Times are 5 p.m-8 a.m.
Church: Eden Westside Baptist Church is having Families Count Parenting classes beginning on Jan. 24. You must register by email at deonadurham@edenwestside.org or call 205-525-1070.
Family: Annette, Tommy, Michael Snow, and I went to Pelham on Christmas Day to watch granddaughter, Hadley open some of her gifts from Santa. We ate lunch with Hadley’s parents, Kayla and Beaux Byrd and her other grandmother, Dana Byrd. It was such fun.
Remember: The best of all gifts around the Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. (Bill Vaughan)
