- Crazy Horse owner, Hunter Evans poses with his daughters and Argo city council at the restaurant’s ribbon cutting.
Hunter Evans’ dad started the Crazy Horse restaurant in Argo two years ago, but this June the reins were passed to Hunter. Evans says that he wants to maintain the atmosphere and food, while making a few changes and upgrades
Evans described the food at Crazy Horses as Southern-fine dining served in a casual atmosphere. He said that the quality of food and the caliber of the chef working at the restaurant is what warrant this description.
The meat at Crazy Horse comes from Evans meat, which provides meat for private fine dining restaurants over the south. The owner of the meat-distributing store is Evans’ grandfather. He said that this allows the restaurant to serve steaks that would cost you double at other restaurants for less. The restaurant also gets fresh fish from the gulf four days a week.
Evans said that he grew up in Trussville but moved to Argo when he was sixteen. “The timing was right for a nice restaurant out here,” said Evans. This is why his dad started the restaurant, but after a lot of success Evans wants to add some new things to the menu and attract a younger crowd.
He said that he wants the younger crowd to know that they don’t have to go into Birmingham, the type of dining experience they are looking for is right here near home. The restaurant’s leasing policy is BYOD, but they supply wine glasses and chilled mugs.
Evans said that currently the restaurant does a lot of business from word-of-mouth advertising, and it brings in a lot of people from all over the Birmingham area. He said he would, however, love to see more of the Argo community coming in for a Crazy Horse experience.
When you head out to Argo to try this unique dining experience, be sure to try the famous bacon cheesecake with homemade sweet tomato jam. Evans said a lot of people are weary because of the name. “But almost everyone who tries it, loves it,” he said.
