According to the unofficial final report from the election that took place on May 22, 15,656 citizens of St. Clair County voted.

One week after the general election in November, Stan Batemon will take office as the new chairman of the St. Clair County Commission. Batemon won with a 44.39% majority vote.

“We have to have positive growth, and I think the only way to do that is to have positive industrial and commercial development,” said Batemon after his victory.

He also said he wants to look at the age group of growth to make sure they have the resources needed.

“I’ll be the chairman of all the citizens, I love St. Clair County. I don’t just love people that are in a particular group or voted for me,” said Batemon.

Batemon said the county has been good to him since he moved here in 1973.

“I look forward to serving them in the best possible way that I can.”

Marie Manning will take over as the new member of the state board of education for District 6 in November. She won with a 74.68% majority in St. Clair.

“I’m very pleased that the people believed our message. and the message is that we need to teach Alabama standards to Alabama children.”

She also said she appreciates work that Dr. Eric Mackey, Alabama State Superintendent of Education, has done and looks forward to working more with him in the coming future.

Manning said she’s particularly eager to jump onto issues such as the curriculum, making sure she reflects the messages she’s heard from the community during her campaign. Some of those included people not wanting common core and critical race theory.

“I can appreciate that from the people,” said Manning. “I believe parents have the right to make decisions about their children.”

She thinks the state has already begun moving in the right direction, but looks forward to continuing that progress.

Manning will continue to serve on the St. Clair County Board of Education until her term begins in November.

Lance Bell from St. Clair won the majority vote of 75.72% for state senator of district 11.
