Head Coach: Michael Graben
Entering his first year as Springville’s head football coach, Michael Graben has been embraced by the Springville community hungry for some success in the football program. Need proof? How about 78 players dressed out for the season opener.
“The administration, the kids, the parents and local businesses – they all have been getting behind what we are doing here and it’s an exciting time,” Graben said.
Graben inherits a team that posted a record of 2-8 last season, but both of those wins came against regional opponents and the Tigers were a much more competitive team than previous years.
The best news for Springville is that a healthy veteran quarterback in junior Austin Hutcheson is returning to run his read-option offense. This will be Hutcheson’s third year as a starter, and a quarterback who has mastered the team’s offense is a great tool to have. Hutcheson’s quick passing game will be supported by a very effective receiver in junior Jace Hayes.
Defensively there are at least two standout players to watch closely this season. The Tigers have a truly gifted shutdown cornerback in Jordan McClellan, who the coaches can put out on an island and feel confident that area is secure. The defense will likely be directed by the gifted middle linebacker Braden Hughes, a much improved junior with great range and size.
