Springville Elementary School’s 4th grade students learned about Alabama’s role in the Civil War with lessons from volunteers of the Daughters of the Confederacy on Friday, April 5. 

Springville Elementary School and Principal, Gregory Moore hosted educational and community leaders on Friday, April 5 concerning the PreK program to discuss funding for future classrooms. Speakers included Senator, Jim McClendon and St. Clair County School Board President, Mike Howard. 

The preschool students from Kids on Main Preschool at Springville First UMC learned about the meaning of Easter from Pastor Chip Vann on April 3.

The Springville Public Library Book Club book for April will be reading “Carrying Albert Home” by Homer Hickam. They meet on the second Friday of each month at 10 a.m. 

Springville Elementary School will have in-person Kindergarten Registration on Thursday, April 25 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Elementary School.

Enrollment for Fall 2019 is now open for Kids On Main. Classes available for 3K and 4K, Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Contact kidsonmain35146@gmail.com or call 205-440-5595. 

Springville Elementary School will be hosting the 2nd Annual Food Truck Rally on Saturday. May 4. If you would like to contribute or participate, contact Coach Lisa at SES.

Springville’s Police and Fire Department have teamed up to host an event called “Springville Night Out”  featuring many of the city, county and state’s emergency resources.  Bring your family for a first hand preview with live demos of the first responders in our area. Highlights of the day include: Helicopters, S.W.A.T., D.A.R.E, a K-9 Unit, Tow Trucks, Ambulances, a Bomb Squad, emergency situation demos and more.

Springville Preservation Society

The Springville Preservation Society is hosting The 6th Annual Springville Preservation Society Spring Fashion Show to benefit the Old Rock School Restoration on Tuesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at Springville First UMC. The show will feature entertainment, food, and the latest fashions. $20 per ticket. Fun time for all. Only 200 seats available.  Call for your tickets at 205-467-6051. 

Cemetery Walk at Fuller Cemetery (located behind the Springville Police Department), Saturday April 13, and Sunday April 14, from 2 to 4 p.m.   Come learn about some old time Springville citizens including Ma Laster and her husband Lee, Anna and Edwin Crandall, Mary Presley, Anner Colley, Susan Riggs and Silas Henry.  Portrayed by members of the Preservation Society, these characters will tell their stories about life in historic Springville.

Walking Tours of Downtown Springville every Saturday morning in April, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Meet at the Springville Museum and Archives, 6496 U. S. Highway 11, across from the Methodist Church.  There is no charge to visit the museum or for the guided walking tours.  For more information, call 205-837-2586.

The Springville Preservation Society is now taking reservations for use of the historic “Little House” located adjacent to the Police Department for events or meetings. Springville Police Department is presenting a Firearms Safety course, which is open to the public. The course includes 2 hour classroom training and 2 hours actual training on the firing range by two certified NRA instructors. You may sign up by calling Lauri Jones at 205-467-6133. The Springville Civil Air Patrol meets every Tuesday from 6- 8:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. The age requirement is 12-18 years of age and adults may also join as senior members. Cadets learn leadership skills, aerospace, character development, as well as team work and piloting skills.
