Springville experienced historic flooding after a series of thunderstorms Thursday evening, August 10. Main Street was closed due to flooding. Canoe Creek overflowed its banks throughout Springville causing flooding to occur on Cross Street, Oak Grove Road, Bradford Road and in Washington Valley. The Springville baseball complex also had flooding on Village Springs Road. The flash floods dropped close to eight inches of rain in under two hours.

The Springville High School Dance Team is hosting the Halloween Color Kraze Raceon October 28 with proceeds benefitting the team. Register online at www.raceentry.com/race-reviews/halloween-color-kraze.

The Springville Farmers Market on Main Street (across from PNC Bank) is growing and creating a buzz with local honey, fresh vegetables, local artisan crafts and fun, food offerings.  The Springville Farmers Market will be open every Friday from 3 -6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. -12 p.m. until November 11 with booths from local produce vendors and craft and art vendors.

The City of Springville will be hosting a Blood Drive on August 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Springville City Hall Council Chambers, located at 160 Walker Dr., Springville, 35146. The Big Springs Park Splash Pad will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Cost is $1 per person, children 3 years and under are free.

Springville Police Department is presenting a Firearms Safety course which is open to the public. The course includes two hour classroom training and two hours actual training on the firing range by two certified NRA instructors. You may sign up by calling Lauri Jones at (205) 467-6133. The Springville Library will host “An American Girl Club” for ages 6-12, every first Saturday at 10:30 a.m.  Contact the Springville Library for details at (205) 467-2339.

From the St Clair County EMA: Road Closure at Muckleroy Creek Bridge. AL State Hwy 11 from Whitney Junction/AL Hwy 231 to State Route 23, Springville to close to thru traffic on Monday, December 12 for bridge work. Alternate Route: I-59. Local traffic can utilize Huff Lane to Crawford Cove to State Rd 23 and also Pinedale Rd to 23. Timeline: More than one year.  This notice is provided from the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The Springville Civil Air Patrol meets every Tuesday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. The age requirement is 12-18 years of age and adults may also join as senior members. Cadets learn leadership skills, aerospace, character development, as well as team work. Cadets also learn piloting skills.
