On May 10, officers from the Pell City Police Department went to Washington D.C. to receive a Safety and Wellness Award from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), the Valor Program and the Bureau of Justice Association.

On May 11, officers participated in the National Police Week “Run to Remember” 5K.  Sergeant Shenanoah McInnish ran in memory of Officer Greg Surles, Captain Joshua Herren ran in memory of Lieutenant Richard Woods, Sergeant Eddie Branham ran in memory of Sergeant Wytasha Carter and Chief Paul Irwin ran in memory of Officer Harley Chisholm.

The four Pell City Officers attended the annual NLEOMF Awards reception at the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum located across from the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial on May 12. The PCPD received the NLEOMF and Destination Zero Award for National Officer Safety and Wellness Award.

Officers were VIPs at the 31st Annual NLEOMF Candlelight Vigil where they sat with guests and victim’s families, which included a reception with United States Attorney Generals and their Staff, Executives and Board Members from the NLEOMF and other award recipients.

“We are very excited about the programs and things that our department is doing and hope other agencies will take the information from all of the awarded agencies programs and use them as a template for forming programs that can save lives of our heroes,” Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin stated.
