Moody wins big over Woodlawn Colonels

The Moody Blue Devils make their first trip to Lawson Field and walk out with a huge 35 – 12 blowout win over the Woodlawn Colonels. Moody reaches 500 on the season improving to 3 – 3 (1 – 3) over all.
Moody started the second quarter 2nd and 5 at the Woodlawn 6 yard line. Rashad Clark scored from there. The extra point was good and Moody led 7 – 0 with 11:55 left in the half.
Woodlawn answered the Moody touchdown with a touchdown of their own. The Colonels scored on a 61-yard touchdown pass, the two point try failed but Woodlawn was within one point 7 – 6.
Rashad Clark struck again, this time with a kickoff return for a touchdown. The return was 72 yards. With the extra point Moody was back on top 14 – 6.
Moody stopped Woodlawn’s next drive in three plays forcing a punt. Moody took the ball at their own 15-yard line. On the drives first play Moody quarterback Carson Buckner handed off to big Jordan Mason and he raced 65 yards into Woodlawn territory. On the very next play Rashad Clark struck again, this time from 23 yards out. The extra point was good and Moody was up 21 – 6 going into halftime.
Woodlawn had the ball to start the second half and wasted no time getting going. A short pass play turned into a 61-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed but Woodlawn cut into the Moody lead, closing to within 21 – 12.
The next Moody drive came thanks to the Blue Devil defense. With all of the momentum Woodlawn was headed into the end zone, but the Moody defense punched out the ball and it rolled through the end zone for a touchback. Moody took over at their own 20-yard line. A personal foul penalty on the Colonels brought the ball up to the Woodlawn 35-yard line. Rashad Clarke followed that up with a 12 yard run. Facing 1st and goal at the 9-yard line Clark tasted the end zone once again for a Moody Blue Devil touchdown. The extra point was good and Moody now led 28 – 12 after three quarters.
The Blue Devils owned the fourth quarter. They put together a 7 ½ minute drive, eating up the clock and ended the drive with a Keavon Franklin 1-yard plunge into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point was good and Moody went home with a big 35 -12 win over Woodlawn at Lawson Field.
Rashad Clark led the Blue Devil offense with 167 yards rushing and 3 offensive touchdowns and a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Ethan Mills led the defense with 11 tackles, two for a loss, one caused fumble and one sack. Joel McCormick was a beast on the defense along with Mills. McCormick had 11 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Mason Shockley was right behind him with 10 tackles, one for loss. Ethan Jeff had 9 tackles, one for loss, one sack, and two pressures. Christian Archer had seven tackles, Aiden Calvert had six tackles and Collin McNeil added five tackles and two caused fumbles.
Moody will take to the road tonight at the Wenonah Dragons. The game was moved from Friday night to Thursday night. The Blue Devils will return home for their big rivalry game against the St. Clair County Saints. Kick off for tonight’s game is 7 p.m.
