Argo still Spring Cleaning May 7-14

The town of Argo is gearing up for its first ever Spring Clean-Up Week, to be observed May 7-14.

Two dumpsters will be available at the Town Hall building, but residents need to be aware of which dumpster they use — the two appropriate receptacles will be located near the entrance to the Town Hall facilities at the opposite end of the building from the fire bays.

The regular city hall dumpster is not to be used, as it will incur extra fees for the town. The appropriate dumpsters are provided free of charge, and tree limbs and other debris are allowed to be disposed of in the appropriate dumpsters.

Free trash bags will be available at the Town Hall, and coupons for free landfill trips will be available until May 13. However, because of all the storm debris amassing in the landfills, the tickets will only be valid June 11 and 18.

In other actions:

— Richard Long of Argo was commended by the council and police department for aiding a police officer during an altercation.

— David Andrew Griffith was hired as a volunteer recruitment and retention coordinator as a part of a $268,000 SAFER grant to the fire department. Argo was one of three departments in the state to receive this grant.

— Ralph Johnsey addressed the council regarding a deannexation request. He argues that he and his siblings were never notified as required by law for the annexation in 1993. His research into the newspapers of that time did not mention the annexation either, he said. On these grounds, he seeks deannexation.

— Betty Bradley requested an investigation into the fire department after on two separate incidents, she said herself and her 10-month-old grandson were not treated by paramedics when brought to the fire department after injuries. Fire Chief Mike Platts agreed to investigate the circumstances of the situations and report back.

— A contract to tar and gravel Bill Smith Rd for $4,380 was not signed, in favor of finding a more viable alternative to repair the road.
