28 wrestlers to represent county in state tournament

Ashville’s state qualifiers are Richie Boley and Justin Mostella.

A total of 28 wrestlers from six schools in St. Clair County have qualified for the state tournament this weekend in Huntsville.

The St. Clair Saints had the most qualifiers qualifiers from a single team with nine (see Page 1B), followed by Pell City with seven.  Following is a list of qualifiers by team and how they finished at the sectional tournament last week.

Pell City Panthers

Jake Smith (45-0), first place, 103 weight class; Jesse Smith (35-4), first place, 112; Zach Smith (45-12), first place, 140; Daniel Edwards (33-13), fourth place, 145; Alex Hopson (30-16), third place; Kris Leong (31-19), second place, 215; and John Floyd (31-16), third place, 285.

Moody Blue Devils

Jacob McQueen (17-15), second place, 160; and Phillip Williams (45-8), second place, 285.

Ashville Bulldogs

Richie Boley (15-5), third place, 215; and Justin Mostella (11-5), second place, 285.

Leeds Green Wave

Alex Nickell (39-8), first place, 103; T.D. Marshall (36-16), third place, 112; Zac Willis (36-16), third place, 119; Taylor Simmons (36-16), fourth place, 130; Tanner Hunter (34-18), fourth place, 145; and Brian Shockley (47-6), first place, 152.

Springville Tigers

Jon-Kaden Mullen (20-15), fourth place, 103; and Jerald Graham (38-11), second place, 130.
