Murray named President of Alabama Sheriffs Association

St. Clair County Sheriff Billy J. Murray was sworn in as President of the Alabama Sheriffs Association, March 12.
A 32-year law enforcement veteran. Murray began his career at the Springville Police Department in 1992 and then joined the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office in 1996. Murray previously served as the assistant sheriff and undersheriff before being elected in 2018. He is a graduate of the National Sheriffs’ Institute and the FBI National Academy.
Murray also currently serves as the President of the FBI National Academy Associates, Alabama Chapter and the President of the Alabama Sheriffs Foundation.
Murray’s belief that “a sheriff must be heavily involved in the community he serves” is evident in his numerous community affiliations. He has served on many boards, including the Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama and the St. Clair Health Care Authority. He is the Past President of St. Clair Day Program, St. Clair FOP and St. Clair Children’s Advocacy Center. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Pell City and is a graduate of Leadership St. Clair County.
He and his wife, Cristy, have been married for 28 years and have one daughter, Brooklyn.
