(Our view) Facebook offers one more reason to support your local newspaper

We confess, we didn’t even know Facebook truly had fact checks. Some of the things posted on social media seem out of this world.

That’s one more reason to subscribe to your local newspaper.

It has always been difficult to rely on social media for accurate news.

Mark Zuckerberg, who is the founder of Facebook — now called Meta Platforms — came on one of his social media posts on Facebook wearing a $950,000 Swiss-made watch to tell us he wants Facebook to be more free for expression.

Facebook’s market capitalization, aka what it’s worth, is just north of $1.5 trillion. Each share costs $617. His company went public in 2012 for $38 per share. That’s a mighty fine return on an investment.

Eliminating any fact-checking might have more to do with the changing political climate in Washington rather then Zuckerberg’s beliefs in the most popular social media platform.

Honestly, he has no desire for any public regulation of Facebook. Support local fact checking by supporting your local newspaper.
