Local law enforcement could get a boost thanks to the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations.

The Pell City Police Department was secured $400,000 for equipment and technology and $250,000 was secured for the St. Clair County Commission for a crisis intervention and negotiations response vehicle.

The funding was made available by U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), who serves on the Senate Committee, through the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The act now awaits consideration by the full Senate.

“When I joined the Senate Appropriations Committee, I promised to bring Alabamians’ hard-earned dollars home,” Britt said in a press release. “This $400,000 would be an investment in the safety of our fellow Alabamians, and it would provide a major upgrade for our tremendous law enforcement officers in Pell City.”

“The City of Pell City is grateful to Senator Britt for her efforts to secure this vital public safety funding,” Mayor Bill Pruitt said in a press release. “Application of these resources will allow us to significantly upgrade and integrate Pell City’s law enforcement technology, leading to enhanced crime prevention and response in our community and creating the safest environment possible to support our city’s rapid growth.”
