St. Clair County student joins Alabama School of Fine Arts

St. Clair County’s Shayla Largadas has been accepted in the Creative Writing program at the Alabama School of Fine Arts for the 2024-2025 school year.
Largadas is among 90 new students from across the state who join the state’s only intensive specialty-focused school in arts, mathematics and science.
After spending each morning on academic coursework that, according to a statement from the school, “exceeds state high school diploma standards, students in grades 7-12 devote sustained hours to honing their craft, flexing their creativity and developing their unique voices within their chosen discipline of either creative writing, dance, music, theatre arts, visual arts or advanced mathematics and science.”
ASFA currently has about 350 students the state-funded, public school in the heart of downtown Birmingham.
According to a press release, “students are embraced and supported by faculty and fellow students alike within an environment that’s inclusive and accepting of every individual.”
