Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend. Historians disagree about exactly who started the holiday. President Cleveland made it official in 1894 to celebrate industrial workers.
This city knows about hard work. It also knows about having a good time and that the two are not mutually exclusive.
A lot of work is going into the Rustik Bucket Let’s Get Cozy event Saturday and Sunday. But much fun will be had by all who attend. Agape Nation is a new non-profit organization for intellectually and developmentally challenged adults in Etowah.
Like most new non-profits, they are working hard to raise money for their cause. They have found a fun way to do it. This Saturday, they are hosting a silent auction and comedy show at The Venue at Coosa Landing beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Prizes range from fun to wow: door prizes, gift certificates and more. There is even a weekend getaway. What many busy parents might appreciate more? Four hours of professional home cleaning! There is a link on Facebook to buy tickets. You can also donate to the cause if you cannot make the event.
The Little Art Tree is beginning its Journalist Art Class Sept. 16. Journalist art uses all forms of tangible art from finger painting to paper mache. The object is self expression as opposed to the final product.
This is an adult class. There will be a private Facebook page just for classmates to discuss their own and others’ art work. So, it is also an opportunity for some grown up community fun.
There are still spots at the time of this writing. But they go fast. For more information call 205-485-5820.
Recently, someone donated a crock pot to the Blessings Box. It will surely be used and much appreciated.
Canned goods are a popular donation because they are non-perishable. So, if you have an extra can opener, drop it by. Other non-food items that don’t cost much, but everyone can use are sandwich bags, oven mitts and pot holders.
The Blessings Box is an excellent example of this city’s labor. It is an example of the effort this community puts back into this community. It shows that with enough people, a little can help so much.
Have a great week, Ashville. May all your labors be labors of love!
