Young people from Leeds and St. Clair County will perform at Kids’ Korner during the Leeds Downtown Folk Festival and John Henry Celebration on Sept. 15 and 16. Admission and parking are free.

Performers include:

Jameson Willis, Shelby Duke, Switchswift, Savannah Jackson, Lily Osborne and the Varsity Devilettes Dance Team along with Leeds’ The Children of Joy youth choir group, Leeds High School’s Jazz Ensemble and Odenville’s Johnson sisters will participate in a fast-pitch softball exhibition.

In addition to Kids’ Korner, the fifth annual Leeds Downtown Folk Festival and John Henry Celebration will feature a juried art show and sale, live music, an antique car show, ethnic and regional food and more.

A second-annual symposium about John Henry, steel drivin’ man and local legend, will be a part of this year’s event.

Participants at Birmingham’s Exceptional Foundation will also display and sell their artwork at the Leeds Downtown Folk Festival.

The foundation, located in Homewood, provides recreational and social activities for mentally and physically challenged people in the Birmingham area.

“We’re the fun place — where our participants have a social life,” Exceptional Foundation Executive Director Tricia Kirk said. “We always have a good day.”

The family-friendly festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16. The event is sponsored by the City of Leeds, Clairmont Homes, Covenant Bank, Dixie Home Crafters, the Leeds Arts Council, the Leeds Historical Society, the Leeds Public Library Foundation, the Monkey’s Uncle, the Pants Store, Regions Bank and Tri-Counties Heating & Air.
