2 Pell City residents killed in motorcycle collision

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:52 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, has claimed the lives of a Pell City man and woman.
According to a press release from Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Dustin R. Layfield, 33, and Audrey M. Peine, 25, were both killed when the 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Billy R. McAnnally, 35, of Chelsea collided head-on with the 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle Layfield was operating. Peine was a passenger on the Harley-Davidson. Both Layfield and Peine were thrown from the Harley-Davidson and were pronounced dead at the scene. McAnnally was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment.
The crash occurred on U.S. 231 near the 221 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Pell City. Nothing further is available as troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
